Segway of Hawaii-Kailua opened for business in January 2010. The idea for an eco-friendly tour operation in Kailua was the idea of founder and owner Rick McMahon. The son of a career army officer, graduate of Zama American High School in Japan, the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a 40-year resident of Hawaii, Rick has a deep connection with Hawaii. After a successful carrer in the automotive industry, Rick turned his attention to the alleviation of traffic in his neigborhood of Kailua. By bringing the Segway to Kailua, Rick is providing visitors an alternative to cars and buses as a way to enjoy the beauty of Kailua.

Segway of Hawaii - Kailua aims to provide customers with a fun and informative tour of our precious environment without polluting and with a minimal carbon footprint.

Apart from the sales and tour activities for which Segway of Hawaii-Kailua was founded, a very integral part of the business model includes being good ambassadors of the Kailua community and demonstrating active stewardship of the parks and beaches. Segway of Hawaii - Kailua participates in litter clean-ups, weeds the parks of invasive plants and volunteers time to help in the maintenance and restoration of valued ecology and cultural sites.

Segway of Hawaii - Kailua is a small, family-run business. Nancy McMahon, the owner of her own small business and the proud and caring mother of one recent HPU college graduate son, one college junior son at San Diego State University and one daughter leads the staff. Her humor and quick wit keep the staff laughing and happy.

The Segway of Hawaii - Kailua team consists of very friendly staff, half of which are bilingual. The guides, led by Joe Satomi, strive to provide an excellent experience for our guests. Safety and fun are the objectives of the guides and each guide is allowed the freedom to personalize their tours with their personality.
